We recently sailed on the Disney Treasure and the Disney Destiny and had our first experience with the Oceaneer’s Club onboard these ships. The club is almost identical on the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny and it is such a unique space for kids and families to enjoy.

Fun for All Ages

The primary purpose of the Oceaneer’s Club is to serve as a safe place for parents to drop off their children to enjoy games and activities while the adults enjoy some child-free time. That said, one of our favorite things about this space is that DCL hosts a variety of activities in the kids’ club that are designated for all ages, so parents and older siblings can attend as well. The club is strategically designed so that one area can be sectioned off and accessed through the main hallway in the event of a scheduled activity. As a family, we were able to enjoy open play in the onboard playground space, make “space goo” with stitch and enjoy character meet and greets in the Marvel Superhero Academy.

Structure of the Club

The program is designed to offer something for everyone. There are six separate spaces in the club, each with unique, immersive theming: the Marvel Superhero Academy, the Star Wars Cargo Bay, the Hub, the Imagineering Lab, the Fairytale Hall and Mickey and Minnie’s Captain’s Deck. When your child visits the kids’ club, they have access to all of these spaces as long as one isn’t temporarily closed off from the club for an all ages event. Kids ages 5-10 can freely roam the club and hang out with friends, draw, play games or engage in the activities that are offered by counselors. Kids ages 3 and 4 are kept in a smaller group with a dedicated counselor and move throughout the club together, participating in similar activities. We found this reassuring because our daughter was 3 and a half on our sailing and this was her first experience being dropped off in this type of environment, so we appreciated that the little ones have extra eyes on them.

Check In and Registration

You can register your child for the club on embarkation day during the designated open house hours. You can also spend this time exploring the club with your child. I highly recommend registering them regardless of whether or not you think you will utilize the club. It’s a quick and easy process and that way you have everything set up in advance if you do decide to use it. If you have a magicband+ for your child, make sure it is charged and ready to use and take it with you when you register. If you don’t have one, the Oceaneer’s club will provide one for free (you do need to return it before the end of the sailing to avoid paying a fee). You will use that magicband and a secret passcode to check your child in and out of the club. It is very secure and I really appreciated Disney’s attention to detail for this process. Children cannot take snacks and drinks into the club, but they do have access to water fountains inside.

Communication

The counselors in the Oceaneer’s Club will contact you immediately if your child needs you or asks for you. You will receive a notification in the DCL navigator app that your child is requesting a pick up. It is important that your phone is connected to WiFi on the ship so that you can utilize the chat for communications. You do not need to pay for premium WiFi to use the chat feature.

Types of Activities Offered

There are constantly activities offered in the club tailored to all different interests. Kids can color, play games, do crafts or hang out with other kids. There are scheduled events throughout the day that they can participate in, dance parties, themed events like Anna and Elsa’s coronation ceremony and more. The program is designed to make sure that kids of all ages are enjoying themselves.

Would we register our kids again?

Absolutely. We had a wonderful first experience utilizing the Oceaneer’s Club and I would be completely comfortable doing it again in the future. Although we enjoy making memories as a family when we travel, it was so refreshing for Justin and I to have a few hours together to ride the Aqua Mouse, check out the adult-only pool deck and spend time with each other. I would highly recommend considering it, even if your kids are not used to a daycare environment. My two kids have never attended a daycare and both did very well.
